I don't know if I am correct but I saw your question and thought I would share my experience with embossing. I always cut my paper first before embossing it. I have found that if I emboss first and then due cut it flattens out the embossed portion. I hope that helps. I am not on the design team or anything. I just love making cards so that is just my opinion to share. Hope it helps.
John, your cards are absolutely stunning!! Your blog has an email link but it won't send me to your email address. I have a few questions for you on how I can create perfect layering and matting like you do on your cards? My email is only1peachy@yahoo.com can you please email and help? Thank you and I love your cards!!

Do you emboss before you die cut or vice versa? Always curious. Love this card - especially the color. I wouldn't have thought to use blue for hearts!
